Radiohead ups the ante with “House of Cards” music video
Monday, July 21st, 2008Supporting new techniques and ideas is nothing new to Radiohead as they vividly illustrate in the new video, “House of Cards” from the “In Rainbows” release. Innovative use of 3D scanners normally pressed into service for terrain mapping are repurposed for the construction of Thom Yorke’s face.
Apparently, they’ve also released the source for remixing and uploading to their YouTube page. Brilliant use of the technology and kudos to the band for keeping it open to interpretation and inspiring.

Interestingly cool, if odd, stock video browser
Thursday, June 19th, 2008Getty has released what feels like a Beta web browse experience for its video library. Moodstream can conjure up the appropriate clips from a set a parameters you define via sliders and controls on a panel. The interface feels a little quirky and dare I say corny as you attempt to find clips pertaining to your needs.
Developer Barbarian Group’s blog describes it as “a concepting tool. The modern version of the fireplace. An interactive art piece. TV for the future. It’s a website we created for and with Getty Images to showcase all of their offerings – still, video and sound – and inspire interactive creatives. And it’s really, really fun to use.”
While I think it’s a refreshing take on the browse paradigm, it doesn’t live up to all that marketing jive. Its interesting in it’s attempt to break convention, but ultimately comes off overwrought and too contrived.

Google Sky
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008The good folks at Google have opened up the night skies to us good earthlings. Those of us without any inclinations towards astronomy or starter telescopes can browse the stars for stunning spectacles of heavenly artistry. The images are comprised from a mosaic of images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the Digitized Sky Survey and the Hubble Space Telescope. Can always count on Google to flex their techdev muscle with interesting and nerdy net toys.

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008Once in awhile you see something that truly stops you in your tracks and forces you to watch — closely. Moresoon achieves this in spades.
Brilliant visual work abound on this site from someone named “Carl,” judging from the mysterious email addy.
Check out the strangely organic and stunning ‘Tales of the Unexpected,’ the woozy and colorful ‘NTT Data,’ and all the other sublimely maddening images.
Dan’s Videos
Thursday, January 31st, 2008A cohort of mine has patience far beyond the realm of the average human being. He is keen on focusing his video camera lens on the an object and tracking it for days, weeks, months even. Yes, we’re talking about time lapse here, folks. And Dan does it well, albeit on a shoestring budget.
He opts for a low-end camera (Canon Powershot A510) to achieve his stunning results, which vary from the opening of an Lily to a street scene in Boston. Can you dig it?

A fairly close prediction of the future from a Disney video that suggests ecommerce transactions, email and browsing for products online. This is probably still the future of the internet. Highly interactive video interfaces are next up. The static web browser is a dying emblem of yesteryear and certainly won’t be here forever.
